Yehuda ben Eliyahu Hadassi - Account of his Life
Yehuda ben Eliyahu Hadassi lived in the twelfth century, in Constantinople. He
wrote a work entitled Eshkol Hakofer, composed in 1148, which was printed by
the Karaite community in Eupatoria (in 1836). Eshkol Hakofer is an
encyclopedic work, a vast record of Karaite law and dogma. With Hadassi, the
old period of Karaite literature closes. Most authors that follow him do not
produce original works, but, rather, relay or comment upon what has been
written before them.
