Animal Free Products A common label on many products is the "Cruelty Free, " or "Animal Free"
label. It is a picture of a rabbit inside a circle with a line through it.
While this symbol may lead one to believe that the product they are purchasing
is tahor, this is not always the case. For example, Trader Joe's Organic
Shampoo, which bears this label, contains an extract from the cochineal insect,
known as carmine (for more information, see: Food Additives). Carmine is definitely
not tahor, and will cause anyone coming in contact with it to become
tame’. Caution, must therefore be used when purchasing any product that
bears this label. Be particularly careful, when dealing with issues of
Kashrut, in purchasing dish-soap that bears this label. |
