Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a great concept because the farmer
is in direct contact with the people he supplies. Therefore, the consumer
is in a position to know if any objectionable practices are used such as
coating the produce with animal-based waxes (usually they are not, and are
only meant for stuff sent to markets to increase their appeal [shiner, brighter]
and shelf life [coating limits the amount of oxygen getting to the vegetable
or fruit and thus slows oxydation]). For more information on CSAs visit
the Community Supported Agriculture of North America site at: http://www.umass.edu/umext/csa/
